Everything’s working — But I’m making some ongoing improvements and adding new sections.

I built Jazz Matters as my home for contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, and world music — and now it’s also home to a small number of guest shows and mixes from people I rate.

Expect contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, and global sounds — with tracklists, long reads, interviews, and playlists that go deeper than the usual.

Jazz Matters is a not-for-profit hobby project I’m extremely proud of. It began in May 2021 as a weekly radio show on a London community station, and that spirit of discovery still guides everything I do.

Today it reaches 40,000+ open-minded listeners across 57 countries on 24+ platforms.

In 2026, I’m taking things up a gear with clear sections: 'JM Studio Notes', the 'Music Player', for long-form reading, 'Jazz Lines' is my writing hub — with 'Sleeve Notes' and 'Monthly Features', and separately from that, you’ll find my 'Interviews' and 'The Vault', where I will keep the archive.

Around mid 2026 a full digital relaunch from my new studio follows, and following that in 2027 Jazz Matters podcasts and mixes will be exclusive to this website.

A bold new chapter begins soon. New location. New studio. New player.

Jazz Lines
Jazz Lines is where I slow things down. It’s the writing side of Jazz Matters — a place for long-form pieces that give the music room to breathe. 

Sleeve Notes are the shorter, more frequent posts — the kind of liner-note thinking I miss: what I’m hearing, why it works, and what it connects to. When a piece has audio, I’ll embed a player so you can read and listen in one place. 

Monthly Features are my deeper dives: scenes, labels, artists, and the ideas shaping contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, and global crossover sounds. 

Interviews sit in their own section, but I’ll link to them when they deepen the story. Everything here is built to stay useful — no hype, no noise, just a clear perspective.

Interview with Billy Cobham

Way back in the mid-1970s, Billy Cobham released an album that altered the course of my life, The Album Crosswinds and the track Heather just took my musical mind in a different direction, I started to go to Jazz clubs to hear and see this music that set my mind on fire.

Ian Daley (aka Selwyn) from Route Publisher (Music books). The interview was about the book "Train of Ice and Fire". This is the story about the maddest and most dangerous ever tour done by a rock band. The band was Mano Negra from France. The ex band of its leader Manu Chao.

Around 2002 Joe released the Faces and places album - I arranged what was my very first interview and it was with Joe Zawinul my music idol, using a mini disc recorder to record a phone call to Joe’s home in the USA.
