I love the classics. I always have. But I refuse to let them become a comfort blanket that blocks new music from getting through.
The funny thing is: the charts keep proving this is a real tension for listeners. In the UK’s Official Jazz & Blues Albums Chart (6 February 2026 – 12 February 2026), you’ve got brand-new entries at the top — and evergreen titles sitting right beside them, refusing to budge.
That week, Miles Davis's Kind of Blue sits at No. 3 with 1,509 weeks on the chart. You’ve also got Sade sitting high with The Best Of at No.4 (868 weeks), Diamond Life at No.7 (369 weeks), and Love Deluxe at No.9 (72 weeks). Amy Winehouse – Frank is in the top five too (940 weeks).
So when I say “classics still chart”, I don’t mean it as a romantic idea. I mean it literally. And if I’m building Jazz Matters to be alive in 2026, I need a way to honour the classics without turning my listening — and my writing — into a museum tour.
