When the Guitarists Take Over

Recent listening has shaken up my musical tree and reminded me just how deep my love of jazz guitar really runs. Electric, acoustic, spiritual, fusion, Brazilian, out-there and in-the-pocket — those different approaches have been jumping out at me over the past few weeks, and it’s made me realise something quite obvious: I’ve never actually done a proper Jazz Matters special on the guitarists who stop me in my tracks.

So that’s now officially on the to-do list for next year. I’m starting to think about which players, eras and sessions to shine a light on — from soulful, blues-drenched lines to more exploratory, global and left-field sounds. This will be one of those shows I take my time shaping, but the idea is there, and the list is already quietly forming in the background.
