I’m starting to get properly excited now. After my first meeting with the builder, the new studio has moved from daydream territory into a real project. Right now we’re not talking about gear or gadgets, but about the bones of the room: where the desk will sit, how the speakers will fire, where records, books and cables will actually live.
My first job is to put together two honest lists: the must-haves that the studio can’t function without, and the would-be-nice extras that I’ll try to shoehorn into the space if we can make them work. Once I see that on paper, I’ll have a clearer picture of how this room can support everything I want to do with Jazz Matters over the next few years.
As this project unfolds — from bare walls to a working home for the music — I’ll keep you updated here in JM Studio Notes.
